How do I scrap my car?

Getting rid of your car is quick and hassle-free with Tendring Recycling. Start by getting a quote, agree the price, then choose whether you’d like us to collect it or you’ll drop it off. From there, it’s taken to our licensed ATF, where everything is handled in line with regulations and the DVLA is updated automatically.

How is the value of my scrap car calculated?

Your quote is calculated using a mix of factors, including the vehicle’s weight, make and model, engine type, current scrap metal values, and your location.

How will I be paid for my scrap car?

By law, cash payments aren’t allowed. Payment is made by bank transfer, typically on the day of collection or soon after.

Can I scrap my car without a V5C logbook?

Yes, that’s not a problem. As long as you can show proof that the vehicle belongs to you and provide valid ID, most licensed recyclers, including us, can still take it.

Do I need to tell the DVLA when I scrap my car?

You don’t need to handle any paperwork yourself. Once the vehicle has been scrapped, we’ll deal with informing the DVLA for you.

Can the price change after I accept a quote?

Quotes are based on the vehicle being complete. If any parts are missing, the final price may be reduced accordingly.

Do I need to be present when my car is collected?

We prefer you to be, but it’s not essential if arrangements are agreed in advance.

Why do you need my postcode for a quote?

Your postcode helps us determine collection logistics and the fuel and time it takes us to get to you. Generally, we pay slightly more if you’re closer to our car breakers yard.

We supply a range of parts to the local community, subject to availability. If we have the part in stock, we’re happy to arrange postage to customers. We also offer part-worn tyres, provided we have the correct size and they meet our quality standards.

We’re open from 8am to 5pm, and both trade and public customers are welcome to bring in and dispose of any scrap metal at our site.
